NY Times Emmy Coverage

First award of the night goes to: Louie Anderson! This category, supporting actor in a comedy series, has strong performances all around — though maybe it’s time to stop saluting “Modern Family”? — but Mr. Anderson’s role as Zach Galifianakis’s mother on “Baskets,” which so few people watched, was striking and absorbing, and the kind of performance that feels like it could only happen on a peculiar, frequently tragic FX show in 2016.
